We’re delighted to be one of four venues piloting iBeholder, a new platform for visual arts audiences in Northern Ireland. This free visitor experience is accessible in the gallery or from home, with exclusive video content covering all aspects of the art on offer at Queen’s, from the Naughton Gallery’s contemporary art exhibitions to the University’s renowned Portrait, Sculpture, and Silver Collections.

On your next visit to the gallery, simply scan the QR code at the front desk to reveal a variety of specially-commissioned animations by Belfast-based illustrator Thomas Bannon which will guide you through various aspects of our Collections. And be sure to check out the other venues involved in the project – Golden Thread Gallery, Belfast Exposed, and CCA Derry~Londonderry – to discover their exclusive content about their own projects and exhibitions!

iBeholder also enables us to learn more about our audiences, ensuring that our exhibitions and events remain relevant and engaging to as many people as possible. Across our full portfolio, we strive to be inclusive and accessible, and our participation in the iBeholder pilot enables us to assess our audience’s needs and interests, bringing them more of what they enjoy.

iBeholder runs until 13 June 2022, so be sure to get involved!

In partnership with The Audience AgencyG39 Cardiff, and thrive. Supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s Creative Industries Seed Fund and Future Screens NI.

HOLD STILL

NAUGHTON GALLERY | NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY COLLABORATION

We are delighted to have collaborated with London’s National Portrait Gallery as one of five UK venues showcasing work from their 2020 HOLD STILL project.

Spearheaded by HRH The Duchess of Cambridge, Patron of the National Portrait Gallery, HOLD STILL is an ambitious community project which was launched in May 2020 to create a unique collective portrait of the UK during lockdown.

People of all ages were invited to submit a photograph, taken in a six-week period during May and June, focused on three core themes – Helpers and Heroes, Your New Normal, and Acts of Kindness. Over 31,000 submissions were received from across the country, with entrants ranging from 4 to 75 years old. From these, a panel of judges selected 100 portraits for a digital exhibition, assessing the images on the emotions and experiences they conveyed.

We selected ‘Cancelled’ by Niaz Maleknia for display at Queen's University Belfast, and the photograph can be found in the Gallery foyer.
To find out more and view all the photographs from the project, visit npg.org.uk/hold-still
