A Year in the Working Life of the Artscare Dance Studio, Belfast Health and Social Care Trust

16 April - 2 May 2010

A photographic exhibition by Belfast-born photographer, Colin Cairns that captures a series of moments in time of the experiences of two mixed ability Dance Companies over a one-year period (2009-2010).  Orbit Dance and Kompany Maine have emerged from a healthcare environment to become the two resident Dance Companies in the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.

Orbit Dance comprises of individuals with learning and physical disability.  Kompany Maine is a group of men with enduring brain injury and the staff who care for them.  Under the direction of the Arts Care dancer-in-residence, Jenny Elliott, both Dance Companies have gained local and international significance.

This exhibition gives the public a unique opportunity to glimpse at the working life of the dancers and the delivery of the wider arts programme at the Arts Care Studio located in Knockbracken Healthcare Park, Belfast. It includes work from the dynamic creative projects that have been developed with medical, social work and film study students through the developing Arts in Health partnership programme with The Centre of Excellence in Interprofessional Education, Queen’s University Belfast.
